The idea for the boxed set came together when authors Jill Sanders and Dana Marton met online and formed an instant friendship. When an author is ready to break out in traditional publishing, the publisher will often put them into an anthology with a NY Times best-selling, big name author, to introduce them to a wider audience and launch them into stardom. As Jill and Dana discussed their indie novels, they realized they could do something similar. A multiauthor boxed set was decided on and more author friends invited to the party. But all the authors agree that the best part of the project is the new friendships formed and old friendships strengthened.

Ignited is the first of my Titanium Security series. I was inspired to write it after following the incredible bravery of Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who was shot in the head by the Taliban because of her outspoken advocacy of girls’ education in the volatile tribal region of her country. In addition to being an author, I’m also a board member of a private scholarship committee that provides post-secondary education to deserving students. Malala’s story really hit home for me, and I just had to write a book that touched on the issue, and that idea became Ignited.

Secret Guardian is book three in my latest Secret series, although each book can stand on its own.
Ethan is one of my strongest characters so far, and my first military character. Ann has the dream job I always wanted — she’s a journalist. I wanted the location of the story to be someplace I’d always longed to travel to, and someplace exotic. Brazil was that perfect setting, especially in the middle of Carnival. I enjoyed writing about their trials and relationship as they hiked through the jungle toward safety. I loved learning about Brazil and couldn’t get enough of the beautiful scenery. Ethan has played a role in several books leading up to this one. I knew I had to tell his story, and I knew it would be an exciting one. Secret Guardian is just that.
Deathscape by Dana Marton

A lot of my books are about women who get into serious trouble and the heroes who save them. In Deathscape, I wanted to do something different. Detective Jack Sullivan is so deeply scarred, at times I wasn’t sure if he was going to be able to save himself, let alone anyone else. I feel drawn to themes like “redemption” and “overcoming hardship.” Where is the point of no return? Can every tragedy be overcome? Jack walks on the ragged edge, having spent his entire career searching for the serial killer who murdered his sister. Hunters believe that to find the prey, you become the prey. Jack took a lot of darkness inside him to be able to get into the killer’s head. Meanwhile, the heroine, Ashley, is so guilt-ridden over the death of a child who was in her care that her life is falling apart. These two on-the-edge characters are truly right for each other, but couldn’t have met at a worse time. As I wrote their story, even I wasn’t sure if they were going to make it. If not, I was willing to let the book go there and have it be a mystery instead of a romantic mystery. I wanted to stay true to the characters. Being part of their story was like being with friends who are going through a hard time. When they come through, it makes you think that you can overcome your own difficulties, too.
Legal Ease by Lori Ryan

Legal Ease was my first attempt at writing fiction. I wrote a draft and sent it to one of my friends who is notoriously hard to please and extremely, well, we’ll just say … blunt. I crossed my fingers and waited. I couldn’t believe it when she e-mailed back and said, “Wow, you can actually write!” Whew! So, I took the feedback she sent and kept on going, creating Jack and Kelly’s story with side characters I knew would be getting their own stories someday. I sent the first 10 pages to a freelance editor to get an estimate on pricing. She e-mailed the following day and said she’d intended to skim the first page just to get an idea of how things looked, then couldn’t put it down. Woo hoo! At that point, I was in heaven and starting to feel like this whole writing thing may actually happen. Four books later and the Sutton Capital Series is going strong. I love my readers, love creating more characters for you to fall in love with, and love to hear from you guys! I hope readers of the boxed set are introduced to new-to-you authors to expand your bookshelves even more.

I have friends in the SEAL community. Upon graduation, every SEAL is given a KA-BAR knife engraved with the name of a fallen SEAL, and usually someone who had the same specialty as the graduating SEAL. I have held one such knife in my hands and it humbled me. In real life, these men are not asked to go look up the family of this fallen hero, but for my story, since my hero, Calvin “Coop” Cooper had just lost his family in a tornado, he was ordered to do so. I liked the twist of the story that in reaching out to a family who had lost their soldier, he could find a family to help replace the loss of his own. And of course find the love of his life. As in all my stories, I get to create the happily ever after, and keep my SEAL out of harm’s way — something I wish I could do in real life as well.
